Historic place to get a tasty breakfast at a good price. I can see why movies are often filmed here.
Walking into this place is like stepping back in time.
I love the cozy booths. This place is genuine. Service was great; our waitress was super friendly. My coffee was never empty!
Next time I come back, I'm going to try something from the lunch menu.
Please don't be deterred by the grit of the surrounding neighborhood. My friend and I had a great breakfast. You won't be disappointed!
Good and service was great! Wall has several signed pictures of celebrities, which is very cool. Unfortunately the surrounding area has a bit of a homeless issue, but nobody bothered us or anything.
I loved the place! Is the first time I visited, and it will not be the unique. Good portions in food, the staff is awesome, and they serve your order immediately. The strawberry milkshake is a blast! The place is super iconic and a North American classic: the music man! Rush was playing while I arrived. Although it appears deserted due to its location in the Old Vancouver neighborhood, which is populated by homeless people, I would still like to see Old Vancouver and its historical sites.
I have been going to the Ovaltine on occasion for at least 40 years. It is a good, reliable spoon, the food is regular diner fare but the place is virtually unchanged since it opened in 1942. It has been used in many TV/film/video productions because it oozes atmosphere. So if you like classic diners this is the last one to be found in downtown Vancouver.
If you are not that familiar with the city be aware that the Ovaltine is on the hard part of E. Hastings (just east of Main). There are a lot of street people around . In all the many decades I have gone there I have never had a problem...
